Perth’s West Australian Football League teams are taking a specky for men impacted by prostate cancer by teaming up for Walk for Him for Men’s Health Week.

Walk for Him, run by Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, invites people to do 49,000 steps during the week – beginning Monday June 13 – in solidarity with men who are affected.

Team teams from Claremont Football Club, East Perth Royals, Perth Football Club and Subiaco Football Club, will be stepping it out next week to help raise funds for the cause.

Peter Capes, CEO of Subiaco Football Club said teams were proud to get involved and help tackle prostate cancer.

“With 49 men diagnosed every day, prostate cancer is a cause that we can’t ignore at our Football clubs,” Peter said.

“Many of us have brothers, fathers, grandfathers or teammates who have been impacted, or are at risk of being diagnosed, so we’re honoured to get behind Walk for Him to increase support.

Peter challenged the community to join their teams and step up for the cause, or donate online. Locals can search for their favourite team at www.walkforhim.org.au and register, or make a donation.

PCFA CEO Anne Savage commended the West Australian Football League clubs for their support.

“Awareness saves lives – we know that we can make great strides with Walk for Him,” she said.

“All funds raised will go towards prostate cancer research, nurses, advocacy, and awareness, directly supporting men with prostate cancer in the local community.

“Over the past 10 years we’ve come a long way, funding $40m in research, placing 100 Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses, and providing one million info kits to the Australian community.

“But we have more work to do to save lives.” Join the campaign at www.walkforhim.org.au or call PCFA on 1800 22 00 99 for support.
