Shared histories, cultures and traditions will be explored through upcoming ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Reconciliation Week events in the City of Melton.
In line with the 2019 theme, Grounded in Truth, residents from all backgrounds are encouraged to seek truth in our nation’s past in order to create a unified future.
Mayor Cr Bob Turner said ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Reconciliation Week was a timely opportunity to focus on fostering positive relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the broader community.
“A number of events across the city will celebrate Australia’s indigenous culture and teach us more about our nation’s history,” Cr Turner said.
“The theme, ‘Grounded in Truth. Walk together with courage’, is a powerful message which reminds us that this is a week not just of reflection, but of change and unity.
“I hope City of Melton residents will get involved in these local events and help bring about a greater understanding, value and respect for each other and our shared histories and cultures.”
The celebratory and educational week, running from 27 May to 3 June, will include a flag raising, traditional art workshops, an exhibition and botanic garden tour.
