Safety in Wallan has received a much-needed boost with a new pedestrian crossing on High Street, activated.
The lights are an important safety measure and will help people move between Wallan’s retail strip and the community recreation spaces in Hadfield Park. We were advised by Regional Roads Victoria (formerly VicRoads) the traffic lights were switched on at midday Friday16 August.
The lights are linked with the intersection signals at Watson Street and at Queen Street ensuring peak traffic flow periods are not impacted.
The new crossing is part of the $4.1 million Wallan Town Heart revitalisation which is helping to transform the town into a connected, vibrant community and retail hub.
Wallan is growing rapidly and in the coming decades there will be more vehicles driving through the area than ever before making safety a key priority for Mitchell Shire Council.
