  • Western Australians are being encouraged to turn a night out into a ‘staycation’ – with the launch of a new campaign promoting Perth’s world-class hospitality, entertainment and accommodation offerings.

The McGowan Government, through Tourism Western Australia, has invested $500,000 in a mini-campaign as part of Wander out Yonder to inspire locals to rediscover Perth and take advantage of a range of great value hotel deals on offer.

The promotion encourages people to extend a visit to the city with a stay at one of Perth’s first-rate hotels and a trip to our outstanding restaurants and bars – while taking in a performance, gig or cultural experience, which will support jobs and boost the local economy.

The push comes in the lead-up to festival season, with Western Australia leading the nation in reopening its hospitality sector, small businesses and entertainment options as part of the WA Recovery Plan.

The hotel deals on offer cater for all visitors – from families looking for an affordable getaway to couples seeking a luxury romantic escape.

They include savings of up to 40 per cent on normal room rates, midweek specials, a free additional night of accommodation when paying for two, and free accommodation for children accompanying adults.

To boost the marketing reach for Perth hotels, the State Government has partnered with booking platform Wotif to offer 15 per cent off Perth hotels, with more offers in a special travel edition of RAC’s Horizons magazine, due in RAC member households next week.

WA’s cultural institutions are also presenting a range of arts and cultural events in the coming months.

Perth Cultural Centre’s family friendly Awesome Arts Festival will run from September 28-October 4. The city has also welcomed the beginning of the wildflower season with the Kings Park Festival on now until the end of the month.

In September and October, His Majesty’s Theatre will welcome West Australian Ballet’s performances of Dracula, WA Youth Jazz Orchestra’s Jazz at the Maj and West Australian Opera’s The Nightingale and Cosi fan Tutte. Perth Symphony Orchestra will hit the State Theatre to present Mozart by Candelight from October 28-30.

Visitors to the Perth Cultural Centre can drop into Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts or the Art Gallery of Western Australia to see spectacular works from the State Art Collection and the annual Pulse Perspectives exhibition.

The new WA Museum Boola Bardip also has its grand opening on Saturday November 21.

The campaign is being boosted by outdoor billboard advertising, with almost 60 city hotel deals and further inspiration on the Destination Perth website at

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“Nowhere else in the country, let alone most parts of the world, is there the freedom to go out and safely enjoy world-class hospitality, accommodation and entertainment like we can here in Perth.

“With the weather warming up and a host of arts, cultural and entertainment offerings available for all ages and tastes, there’s never been a better time to be a tourist in your own backyard. We know our regions are buzzing with business from Western Australians who have heard our calls to Wander out Yonder and support local businesses.

“Our city hotels are second-to-none and our restaurant and bar offerings are simply outstanding – so this is an opportunity to have a look at the great deals available and book a staycation in one of our wonderful metropolitan destinations, and support local jobs and local businesses.”

As stated by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

“Perth’s hospitality sector is the most vibrant and active in the country. Our venues are able to trade at a decent capacity, we don’t have the prohibitive four-square-metre rule, and our restaurants, bars and cafés are enjoying the benefits.

“The suite of entertainment options ramping up around Perth in the coming months make this the perfect time to holiday in your home town with a staycation and an affordable city hotel room.

“Regional WA’s tourism hotspots are absolutely jam-packed now and into the school holidays, so anyone who hasn’t booked should look at the incredible options around Perth and rediscover our wonderful city.”

As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

“Thanks to our world-leading response to the pandemic, we are fortunate to be in a place where we are free to travel within the State, see a show or visit a venue in a COVID-safe environment.

“It’s important Western Australians get behind these events and festivals. It will provide valuable support to our local artists, arts organisations and venues as we continue to pave our way to recovery.

“Book your stay, and head along to the Awesome Arts Festival or another culture and the arts event this month.”
