As all eyes prepare to turn to Birmingham, England for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the City of Logan is getting ready to honour its homegrown sporting stars.

Nominations for the 2022 City of Logan Sports Awards open today.

Each year, the awards recognise the outstanding achievements of the City’s elite athletes, teams, coaches and volunteers.

City Lifestyle Chair Councillor Laurie Koranski said our sporting stars are sure to be burning bright in this Commonwealth Games year.

“City of Logan sportspeople never fail to inspire us, whether they are competing on the local, national or international sporting stage,” Cr Koranski said.

“We are a community that loves to cheer our sporting heroes, and we cannot wait to see them reach new heights again this year.

“If you know an inspiring sportsperson, please consider nominating them for an award.

“Our annual awards ceremony is an important opportunity to not just celebrate our top athletes, coaches and volunteers, but also to encourage grassroots sports in our communities and inspire the champions of tomorrow.”

Support for grassroots sport was an important feature of Logan City Council’s recently adopted 2022/2023 Budget.

Council has allocated $38 million over five years, with ongoing funding after that, to support the construction of sporting facilities across the city.

Nominations for the 2022 City of Logan Sports Awards close on September 9.

Winners will be announced at the Sports Awards gala later this year.
