A man – wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant – has been charged after firearms seized in the state’s central west yesterday.
About 8.40am (Tuesday 6 February 2024), officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District attended a home on Wambion Street, Gilgandra, to ensure compliance of a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO), and a Weapon Prohibition Order (WPO).
Following a search of the home police located 9 firearms, and a bag with white crystalised substance believed to be methamphetamine.
A 42-year-old man was arrested and taken to Gilgandra Police Station and charged with:
- possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm (x3)
- possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority (x2)
- goods suspected stolen in/on premises
- possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority (x2)
- possess unauthorised prohibited firearm (x4)
- possess prohibited drug
- use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order
- possess >3 unregistered firearms, 1 is prohibited/pistol
- possess > 3 unregistered firearms without licence/permit
- acquire firearm – subject to prohibition order
- acquire prohibited firearm-subject prohibition order, and
- acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order.
An outstanding warrant was also executed.
The man appeared at Gilgandra Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 6 February 2024), where he was formally refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Wednesday 7 February 2024).
