Works have resumed on the $20 million Ward 4K redevelopment at the Launceston General Hospital.
I am delighted that Stage One of the works has now been completed, which will deliver brand new facilities for young Tasmanians.
Importantly, this stage includes two negative pressure rooms which have an airlock and ensuite, allowing patients to isolate, the first ever bariatric room for adolescents at the LGH, a new adolescent lounge area and a contemporary school room to support learning by patients across both primary and secondary age ranges
Stage one also delivers a new Allied Health treatment and rehab space, and an activity room for individual or group-based therapy sessions (such as yoga or art therapy).
We want our young people to have access to the best possible care and modern health facilities, so it is really exciting to see this project restart by local construction company Fairbrother.
Work was suspended in April to ensure the hospital had capacity to meet the potential surge in presentations due to COVID-19, as well as to minimise disruption and foot traffic within the hospital site.
Stages Two and Three of the build will now be completed in 2021.
