Warning area: Cairns Region – Mulgrave and Russell River flood advice

This warning is from the Cairns Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG)

Minor flooding persists at Russell River.

Mulgrave River has currently eased to below minor levels.

Over the last week, high rainfall totals have saturated the Mulgrave and Russell catchments, which has caused river level rises and flooding. Several low-lying roads across the region have temporarily closed due to flooding.

Thunderstorms and showers are forecast over the next few days which may cause renewed river level rises and minor flooding including flash flooding depending on the location of the heaviest falls.

King tides are expected to impact the Cairns Regional coast from Friday 7 February to Saturday 15 February. Road closures could be impacted by tide movements.

Impacts

Isolation of Russell River catchment communities by road.

There is possible disruption to road networks, parking in low lying areas near the coast, and localised flooding where storms and showers occur.
