The Waste Industry Alliance (WIA) has called on the Kingston Council to reconsider its decision not to extend a permit to allow glass and concrete recycling by the Alex Fraser Group.
The Head of the WIA, Tim Piper, has described Kingston Council’s decision as “remarkably short-sighted”.
“This is a decision which effects the waste and recycling industry in the State. Any reduction in waste and recycling facilities available is a backward step,” he said.
Mr Piper called on the State Government to recognise the impact of Kingston Council’s decision and decisively act to prevent it happening.
“The Victorian economy needs many recycling sites especially given the State Government’s new waste policies.
“The Government is looking to develop a closed loop economy in Victoria. All current sites, including this one, will be important parts of the system,” Mr Piper said.
