Water Minister Dave Kelly today announced that water-saving offers, including a rainwater tank rebate and free Showerhead Swap, would be available to 10 South-West communities in the 2020-21 Waterwise Towns Program.
The south-west of Western Australia is one of the regions on the planet most impacted by climate change and a reduction in rainfall.
That is why the McGowan Government is providing 10 South-West communities with access to water-saving offers through the Waterwise Towns Program.
The program, which last year saved 10.5 million litres of water in the region, is delivered by the Water Corporation to make it easier for households in the South-West to reduce water consumption.
This year, households in Balingup, Bridgetown, Boyup Brook, Donnybrook, Greenbushes, Hester, Kirup, Manjimup, Mullalyup and Nannup are encouraged to take part.
Residents in each town will be eligible for a rebate of up to $1,000 through the Rainwater Rewards program. Rainwater Rewards incentivises the purchase and plumbing in of rainwater tanks. A rainwater tank plumbed into a home can help save up to 20 per cent of average household water use each year.
Households in each participating South-West community will also have the opportunity to replace old, inefficient showerheads with water-efficient alternatives through the Water Corporation’s Showerhead Swap program.
Last year, nearly 900 households across regional WA exchanged 1,274 showerheads, helping save close to 18 million litres of water.
Offers through the 2020-21 Waterwise Towns Program are available in participating towns from October 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021.
Since 2013-14, the State-wide program has saved an estimated 1.27 billion litres of precious water – equivalent to 564 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
To further assist the community with saving water, the Leak Assist Program (LAP) has now also been extended to include regional WA. The LAP enables eligible customers to claim a rebate of $100 when they engage a licensed plumber to repair a leak.
