Waverley Woodworkers funding boost

Waverley Woodworkers has received a funding boost of $58,000 through the Men’s Shed Program for a dust extraction unit to minimise the dust from their woodworking projects.

Monash Mayor Stuart James joined State Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan and Member for Mount Waverley Matt Fregon for the announcement today, along with several members of the Waverley Woodworkers.

The new unit will be installed at new rooms for the Waverley Woodworkers which are expected to be constructed under the grandstand at Central Reserve in Glen Waverley next year. The new space will also have a dedicated space for the Waverley Gem Club.

Mayor Stuart James said the Men’s Shed Program is important because it provides spaces for men to meet up regularly, work on projects they are interested in and have a chat in a welcoming and friendly place. The Waverley Woodworkers Club also welcomes women who have an interest in woodworking.

“Men’s Sheds serve a number of roles and it’s great to see this funding from the State Government to support the Waverley Woodworkers. It’s a place where people can work on their projects if that’s what they choose to do or they may want to learn information about health and wellbeing,” Cr James said.

“It’s also a place to talk freely about any issue or concern and know that support and friendship is there to help you. We know that being part of a Men’s Shed can help reduce social isolation among men, which can lead to significant mental and physical health concerns if not addressed. Men’s Sheds do a fantastic job and we’re delighted to be supporting the Waverley Woodworkers with a new improved facility in the future.”
