Police have charged two men with multiple offences, including weapons offences, following an emergency declaration made under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at Newtown in Toowoomba yesterday (December 21).
At approximately 10.45am police attended a Park Street property in relation to a search warrant.
Police began negotiations with two men in the property, who were believed to be in possession of a firearm, which resulted in the declaration being made just before midday.
It will be alleged during the course of negotiations shots were fired both from the premises and by police. No one was physically injured in the incident.
At approximately 5.40pm, a 44-year-old Toowoomba man and 35-year-old Toowoomba man were taken into custody.
The 44-year-old Sunshine Coast man has been charged with one count each of possess firearm, possess explosives, dangerous conduct with a weapon, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, possess dangerous drugs, possess utensil, receiving tainted property and wilful damage in relation to the emergency declaration.
The 35-year-old Toowoomba man has been charged with four counts of burglary, two counts of enter premise, two counts of tainted property, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count of stealing and one count of unlicensed driving in relation to other offences.
Both men have been remanded in custody and are expected to appear at Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow.
