Weaving is in Flora Warria’s blood. The Mua Island artist has been mastering the craft since she was a child and wants the ancient practice to continue forever.
‘My passion is for the young ladies to grab a hold of it, to preserve it for the next generation onwards,’ Flora said.
‘[We] must not let it die down. Because the knowledge has come from ancient times.’
Flora learned her craft from the older women in her Torres Strait Island community.
‘When I do weaving and gathering of the materials it connects me and I feel connected to the land. I’m preserving the knowledge of our old people.’
