Weighbridge operations will resume at the Jondaryan Waste Management Facility on 1 July following a five-year hiatus.
State Government legislation requires all leviable waste disposal sites to have an operating weighbridge by 1 July 2024 to accurately measure waste that is entering the site.
Weighbridges must comply with the State Government’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Act, 2011 which was introduced with the aim of minimising the impact of waste disposal.
Toowoomba Regional Council Waster Services portfolio spokesperson, Cr Melissa Taylor said council have been required to measure waste that enters its site and correctly remit a waste levy to the State Government since 2019.
“New sites have been brought into line based on the amount of waste each facility takes in each year,” Cr Taylor said. “This latest tranche of sites includes the Jondaryan Waste Management Facility.”
Cr Taylor said the Jondaryan facility records around 3200 visits annually and the reopening of the weighbridge will offer a better customer experience.
“Once the changes are implemented users will no longer need to access the site using a PIN code to enter the site as there will be a staffed gatehouse and weighbridge,” Cr Taylor said.
“Council is also working towards providing a trash and treasure facility as part of these changes.
“Every tonne of material out of landfill is a saving for the community, either through avoided waste levy or gate fees, and saves landfill space.”
From 1 July 2024 the facility will operate under new hours of 1pm to 5pm on Monday and Friday, 8am to 12 noon on Wednesday and 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
