Woolley Street, Dickson is set to come alive with the Dickson Lunar New Year Celebration in a kaleidoscope of cultures, colour, sound, tastes and aromas.
Marking the commencement of the lunar calendar for 2023 and the Year of the Rabbit, the event celebrates the coming together of family; friends old and new; and the cultures building our rich community.
This two-weekend event commences on Friday 13 January and Saturday 14 January 2023, with the main celebration to take place on Saturday 21 January.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Tara Cheyne said that Canberrans and visitors are invited to enjoy the festivities with food and entertainment.
“There will be something for everyone to embrace with the line-up reflecting the wonderful multiculturalism of Dickson and our local community,” said Minister Cheyne.
“The festival will launch with local community groups and lion dance performers, roving artists and the great reveal – a Zodiac Rabbit sculpture.
“There will be food and product stalls from local businesses, decorations and an outdoor stage bursting with local talent, community groups and interstate artists.”
Entertainment is scheduled for:
- Entertainment – Friday 13 January from 4pm-8pm
- Entertainment – Saturday 14 January from 11am-3pm
- Main event – Saturday 21 January from 1pm-11pm
Program highlights for the main event include:
- Lion and dragon dances by Prosperous Mountain Lion Dance and Canberra Dragon Dance
- Fire dragon Kung Fu
- Roving Zodiacs
- Live performances by KANDY and Dyan Tai
- And many more!
Minister Cheyne said the two weekends provided a great opportunity to support our business community in what can be a quieter time of year.
“From buying food and products from the stalls, to making reservations at local restaurants, there are plenty of ways to celebrate while supporting local.”
Organised by the City Renewal Authority and supported local cultural associations and sponsors, SBS and the Tradies, the Dickson Lunar New Year Celebration will bring local community, business and visitors together to mark new beginnings.
