With a rich diversity of expertise and experience, the new Board represents the full breadth of Australia’s dynamic retail sector, ensuring the voices and needs of all members are heard and championed.
Meet the NRA Board
- Antony Moore | Chairperson
Antony is the Chief Channel Officer at The Lottery Corporation and brings over 25 years of senior retail operations expertise. Antony’s strategic leadership has optimised retail networks nationwide, while his credentials as a Fellow Certified Franchise Executive and Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors underscore his dedication to excellence.
- Alice Barbery | Deputy Chairperson
As the CEO of Universal Store, Alice has successfully steered her company through transformative milestones, including a 2020 ASX float amidst the challenges of COVID-19. Alice’s people-first leadership approach has been instrumental in Universal Store’s ongoing success.
- Anthony Wilson | Director
Anthony is Managing Director of Wilson Retail Co and President of the Australian Surf Industry Association. An advocate for retail and surf industries, Anthony has led Wilson Retail Co to become a multi-award-winning retailer.
- Shane Bracken | Director
Joining the NRA Board for the first time, Shane is CEO of Subway Australia. With over 25 years managing multinational food brands, Shane’s focus on innovation and long-term growth supports Subway’s franchise network.
- John Pascoe | Director
As the CEO of Price Attack, John offers a proven track record of delivering financial and operational advancements through strategic leadership. His insights have consistently driven success and innovation across the retail sector.
- Rob Godwin | Director
Returning as a Director, Rob brings modern retail expertise as a consultant and Authorised Representative of Flirt Adult Store. Rob established Lovehoney in 2013, growing it into one of Australia’s leading eCommerce brands.
- Nicholas Owens | Director
Nicholas is the State Manager for QLD, ACT, and Tasmania at Cambridge Clothing, contributes invaluable retail insights from one of the leading men’s tailored clothing brands in Australia and New Zealand.
- Brian Walker | Director
As the Founder of Retail Doctor Group, Brian brings expert retail insights to the NRA Board. Brian has driven transformative omni-channel and franchising strategies for leading retailers and Retail Doctor Group has been a partner of the NRA for many years.
- John Ball | Director
John is the CEO of Scyne Advisory, joins with exceptional credentials, including nearly a decade as Managing Director at Google and senior roles at Microsoft. John is a passionate advocate for using AI to drive business transformation.
Acknowledging Our Retiring Board Members
As we look to the future, we also honour the remarkable contributions of three retiring Board members:
- Tim Schaafsma, who served for nine years, including two as Chair, played a pivotal role in advancing the NRA’s strategic objectives, notably the proposed amalgamation with the Australian Retailers Association (ARA).
- Ian Winterburn, whose extraordinary 19 years of service reflect his unwavering commitment to the association’s governance and strategic direction.
- Rhys Reynolds, who has significantly contributed to advancing the NRA’s mission and the interests of Australia’s retail sector.
Recognising Honorary Life Members
In appreciation of their extraordinary service, the NRA Board has proudly bestowed its highest honor, Honorary Life Membership, upon:
- Mark Brodie, whose visionary leadership over 22 years, including as Chair, guided the NRA through transformative industry changes.
- Ian Winterburn, whose 19 years of dedication have strengthened the NRA’s foundation and strategic vision.
- Tim Schaafsma, whose 9 years of impactful leadership have left a lasting legacy, especially in fostering collaboration with the ARA.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Mark, Ian, and Tim for their exceptional contributions, which have profoundly shaped the NRA and Australia’s retail industry.
