Wentworth Shire Council understands the concern within the community associated with the rising river levels and potential flooding.
At this time, according to the BoM – The Murray River at Wentworth may reach around 32.30 metres AHD early November, with minor flooding. Further rises may be possible.
It should be noted that the minor flood level in Mildura is 36.00m in comparison to the minor flood level in Wentworth which is 32.08m.
Comparisons of the major flooding that has occurred within the region in the last 30 years is shown below:
1992: Mildura – 36.60m, Wentworth – 32.60m
1993: Mildura – 37.46m, Wentworth – 33.30m
2011: Mildura – 35.14m, Wentworth – 32.20m
2016: Mildura – 36.50m, Wentworth – 32.63m
The current river level of the Murray River at Wentworth as at 21/10/22 is 32.05m.
If you are seeking sandbags, the local SES have advised the following process:
1. Call the SES on 132 500 to log the job and provide name and address.
2. Sandbags and sand will be provided by the SES if deemed necessary.
3. You will be required to fill your own sandbags.
The SES Depot is located at 44 Armstrong Avenue, Wentworth.
