The West Coast Council is pleased to announce that the recipients of the 2022 Australia Day West Coast Spirit Awards are Paul Bugg of Queenstown, Kevin Mathewson of Rosebery and June Scott of Zeehan.
The successful recipients are all recognised as valuable community members who give their time willingly to assist others.
Paul has been an active member of the Queenstown Fire Brigade for the past 45 years and has held the position of Brigade Chief since 2016. Paul also volunteered for the Queenstown Ambulance Service from 2003 to 2006. Paul is known as a respected mentor to new members and other West Coast fire brigades.
Kevin has been the main organiser of work for the past 9 years in hosting the Rosebery ABC Giving Tree Quiz Night. In this time, the ABC estimates that Kevin has raised over $100,000 for the Giving Tree appeal. Kevin also assists his wife with planning of the Rosebery Music Festival and any other individual or organisation that needs help or guidance.
June has been volunteering for many years across several organisations in the Zeehan community including the local Scout group, Football Club, Buffalo Lodge, Swimming Club Committee, Lions Club and RSL. June’s passion and organisational skills have contributed greatly to the success of many volunteering projects.

These awards assist to highlight the importance of volunteering and draws attention to just how valuable volunteers are to small rural communities like the West Coast. I offer my congratulations to this year’s recipients and thank them for their continued efforts.”
