Perth Glory will be taking on English Premier League side West Ham United at Optus Stadium on Saturday 15 July 2023 (kick-off time TBC).
Meanwhile, the Hammers will further face London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, three days later with that game also occurring at Optus Stadium on Tuesday 18 July (kick-off time TBC).
Boasting one of the finest traditions in English football, West Ham have lifted the FA Cup on three occasions, claimed both the European Cup Winners’ Cup and Intertoto Cup and have spent more than two-thirds of their 97 league seasons in the top flight, finishing seventh last year.
The Hammers’ current squad features a host of international stars, including Declan Rice (England), Lucas Paqueta (Brazil), Kurt Zouma (France) and Tomas Soucek (Czech Republic), while legends to have worn the famous claret and blue in previous years include England 1966 World Cup-winning trio Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters, Sir Trevor Brooking, Billy Bonds and Paolo Di Canio.
With Glory having faced other Premier League opposition in recent years in the form of Chelsea and Manchester United, club CEO Anthony Radich is relishing the prospect of adding West Ham to that illustrious list.
“It is a great honour for Perth Glory to have the opportunity to play against another high-profile English club with such pedigree and tradition,” he said.
“As a club, we cannot wait to be involved and I’m sure our Members, fans, players and staff will be excited to be a part of what promises to be an equally memorable football event.
“We look forward to welcoming West Ham fans from WA, interstate and the rest of the world and coming together to create a fantastic atmosphere at what is a magnificent venue.
“This game further reinforces Perth’s status as a destination city for the world’s top clubs and I would like to thank the WA State Government, VenuesLive and West Ham United for all the work they have done in bringing this event to Optus Stadium.”
