The Western Australian Handheld Pregnancy Record (HHR) has been updated to ensure it remains the most up to date source of evidence-based information for pregnant people in WA.
Ten years since its launch, the HHR continues to play a vital role in health promotion and empowers pregnant people to make informed choices about pregnancy care options and place of birth. It also supports continuity of care by ensuring seamless information sharing among multidisciplinary clinicians throughout the pregnancy journey.
Importantly the HHR is also a comprehensive tool for maternity care providers. It enables the documentation and sharing of all relevant antenatal information during each visit. This is essential for making informed diagnostic and treatment decisions while upholding best practice standards of care. Post-birth, this record becomes a permanent part of the medical records.
Enhancements to the HHR include:
- improved clinical record-keeping functionality
- amendments to key information areas such as:
- iron
- onicotine and recommendations
- alcohol and recommendations
- syphilis and serology requirements.
- updated Safer Baby Bundle resources, including culturally appropriate information with QR code links to additional resources
- updated SIDS information to reflect the current recommendations
- QR code links to the most up to date resources to support the pregnant person, partner, support person and family
- addition of a tear-out section on the contraception page so it can be provided to the client on postnatal discharge.
