Western Diagnostic Pathology in WA and NT connected to My Health Record

Australian Digital Health Agency

Consumers in Western Australia and Northern Territory can now have access to their pathology reports from local provider Western Diagnostic Pathology (WDP), when and where they need them.

This completes the Healius Pathology group connection with labs in all states and territories now able to support consumers and share their reports with My Health Record.

According to Gerry Mabarrack, General Manager Western Diagnostic Pathology (WDP), “The large number of regional communities in WA and NT will benefit from being able to have all of their results in the one place.”

“It’s not like the big cities over east where there is easy access to services.”

“Being able to share pathology results with a range of healthcare providers can ease the stress for patients.”

“WDP offers pathology services throughout WA and NT, from down south in Albany and Bunbury, up to the Pilbara, across to Kalgoorlie, Alice Springs and then to Darwin where there are more than a dozen collection centres.”

“Consumers across WA and the Northern Territory can bring any pathology request form to one of our nearly 200 collection centres and we will be able to put a copy of their pathology reports into their My Health Record.”

Perth resident, Geoffrey Bartle said “In the west, we have been frustrated that all of our private pathology test results have not been sent to My Health Record.”

“This is great news and I’m sure many consumers like me will be happy to know they can take any request form to a Western Diagnostic Pathology collection centre and have their results shared with them.”

“Doctors in public hospitals will be able to access them too, which ensures treating doctors have relevant pathology information at their fingertips.”

Amanda Cattermole, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Digital Health Agency, said “Consumers and healthcare providers want online access to pathology reports.”

“There has been a 613 per cent increase in pathology views by consumers in the past year. More than two million pathology reports a week are now being uploaded to My Health Record.”

“I congratulate Healius on connecting all labs nationally and providing the opportunity for consumers to visit any of their almost 2,000 collection centres to have their reports accessible online.”

“In addition to pathology reports, consumers and healthcare providers can see diagnostic imaging reports, medications, vaccinations, allergies and hospital discharge summaries on My Health Record,” she said.
