Jenny Date’s memoir, What happened to the girl from the Mallee, will be officially launched at an afternoon tea event at the Swan Hill Library on Friday, 13 September at 2pm by Councillor Ann Young.

What happened to the girl from the Mallee is an Australian-flavored memoir that takes readers on a personal journey through the eras and across the globe.

The book was inspired by Jenny’s discovery of every letter she had written to her parents from when she, their only child, first left home as a teenager and then as she travelled the world.

This is a personal account exploring the adventures, experiences, and learnings of a girl who left the Mallee to take on the world.

With a passion for adventure and learning, Jenny says, “I have always loved and been excited by life. Through sharing my memoirs, I want to ignite interest and inspiration in others to live life to the fullest,”

“I hope my words will give fellow baby boomers the opportunity to reminisce about days gone by. And for the younger readers, I hope I can offer them with a glimpse of what 70 years of a full life looks like. I also want readers to explore with me the fun and challenges of ageing,” explains Jenny.

Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Library Manager, Camille Cullinan, expressed her honour in hosting the launch of Jenny’s memoir at the Swan Hill Regional Library.

“It will be an afternoon to celebrate the long-lasting friendships and connections that the Mallee is renowned for,”

“Jenny’s memoir will be officially launched by fellow school friend, Councillor Ann Young,” Ms. Cullinan added.

Jenny chose to launch her book in Swan Hill as she wants to acknowledge where her roots are deeply planted.

“The Mallee is where it all began for me. The things I learnt growing up in the Mallee have supported me throughout my life,” conveys Jenny.
