We’ve just completed the biggest formal listening activity ever undertaken at Transurban.
Working with an external consultant, Voconiq, to ensure confidentiality and independence we undertook a number of activities, including:
- interviews with more than 70 stakeholders
- dedicated survey for our business partners and suppliers
- a desktop review of 68 existing insight documents
- a community survey attracting more than 4,000 responses from people across Greater Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Transurban’s Head of Social Licence Jane Calvert said the company has new insights it is now considering in decision making and planning, thanks to the thorough and honest reflections of everyone who participated in these activities.
“We know expectations change and we want to continue to look for ways to better understand the needs of our stakeholders so we can contribute and respond in meaningful ways” said Jane.
What did you tell us?
Themes from the listening exercise told us:
- Stakeholders would like Transurban to explore leadership opportunities in driving sustainable transport networks
- Stakeholders expect Transurban to undertake broader environmental, social and governance (ESG) outcomes, in ways relevant to our business
- There is low awareness of many of Transurban’s initiatives, especially in the community and there is also increasing expectations in this space, particularly around health, safety and wellbeing
- Most stakeholders report positive on road experiences, but value-for-money is still a consideration.
A desire for deeper more collaborative relationships was another common theme across all our stakeholders, with 82% of community survey respondents believing it is important for Transurban to get feedback from customers and community members.
Plans are now in place for another dedicated community engagement survey to launch later this year. This survey will dive deeper into these perceptions and the expectations on us, to ensure the ongoing needs of our community are captured and considered.
