Police are investigating following an attempted bike theft in Pakenham this morning which was foiled by a quick-thinking cyclist.
Investigators have been told the bystander noticed a man behaving suspiciously and attempting to remove a locked bike near Pakenham Railway Station about 11.45am.
When the unknown male pulled the bike from where it was chained and began to ride off, the man followed on his own bike and caught up with the thief, convincing the unknown male to leave the stolen bike behind.
The offender fled the scene on foot from the intersection of Sandalwood Drive and Sweet Pea Drive about midday.
He is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance and was wearing a black hoodie, red shorts and skate shoes.
