Tasmania’s reputation as a world renowned mountain biking destination has been supercharged with a $2.5 million investment from the Commonwealth secured for the West Coast MTB Project.
The Tasmanian Government initiated the West Coast MTB Project several years ago, and has in 2018 invested $500,000 for Council to complete the train network and investigate further tracks.
With Federal funding now secured, the Mt Owen project can be constructed, design work for the Zeehan project can proceed and other feasibility, marketing and promotion work can take place.
Once complete, these projects will provide a truly unique experience for the growing number of MTB riders who visit the state once the borders reopen, and indeed Tasmanian MTB enthusiasts.
The project is expected to create an additional 33 jobs in the region and result in indirect expenditure of well over $2.5 million, in addition to the ongoing benefits of increased tourism in the region.
The project is expected to be completed by June 2021.
