[Campbelltown, New South Wales] 2020-2021 has been challenging for most businesses to say the least. For this not-your-average bed company that helps everyday Australians relieve pain, recover and ultimately get a better night’s sleep with their therapeutic adjustable and massage beds and chairs, not being able to visit customers or showcase their products meant they had to pivot. Committed to their mission of improving the lives of Australians by providing solutions that help recover, energise and alleviate pain exacerbated by poor or disrupted sleep, they believe that good sleep is a right, not a privilege. So whilst most other retailers either closed shops or moved to an omnichannel experience, SleepHive decided they’d open their first retail offering with a white glove approach in Campbelltown, November 2021, to give customers an opportunity to see for themselves how they can get a better night’s sleep.
After years of visiting customers in their homes showcasing their sleep solutions, SleepHive open their first retail Sleep Solutions Preview Centre. “It has been really challenging for our customers, with our team not being able to visit people in their homes due to COVID lockdown restrictions these past couple of years. We wanted a way that we could still showcase our sleep solutions to help people get a better night’s sleep, so we took the plunge and opened our first preview centre in Campbelltown,” shares SleepHive CEO, Clive van Deventer.
But this is no ordinary retail bed shop. “This is a very different retail experience than you may receive in most bed shops. We wanted to create a retail experience like no other: think 5-star hotel concierge. On arrival our customers are greeted by one of our friendly consultants, they are offered a cup of herbal tea and a sleep assessment before experiencing the recommended sleep solution based on their sleep concerns. It’s a very tailored experience,” said Clive.
‘What’s your favourite position in the bedroom?’ the customer is asked. This question might be a little taboo, but for SleepHive it’s one of the most important questions when it comes to sleep quality. “The position in which you sleep can improve our recovery and health conditions, yet this is often overlooked when addressing our health concerns,” says Clive. “An adjustable low body vibration bed encourages the correct skeletal alignment to assist with improved sleep. Other benefits include increased local circulation, improved relaxation in muscles, relieved aches and pains, reduced heartburn and acid reflux by raising the upper body, reducing snoring, and overall better health and well-being.”
Poor sleep impacts our health and well-being. A report published by RACGP* shared that, according to Professor Robert Adams, lead author of the report and spokesperson for the Sleep Health Foundation, ‘About 60% of people report at least one sleep symptom occurring three or more times per week.’ Another interesting fact is that sleep does not just affect the elderly; research has shown that in children aged 12 -15, 25% do not sleep for 8 – 10 hours on school nights, and for children aged 16 -17, that percentage rises to 50%. SleepHive caters to the entire family.
Sleep concerns may include: trouble falling asleep, trouble staying asleep, waking too early and not being able to get back to sleep. This may result from various factors such as pain, stress, Restless Legs, Obstructive Sleep Apnoea — the list goes on.
