The City of Greater Bendigo has welcomed today’s announcement that Bendigo will host White Night on Saturday September 3.
Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said White Night was originally planned to take place in 2020 and then rescheduled in 2021 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am delighted that White Night is back on the events calendar returning to Bendigo on Saturday September 3 with the theme ‘everything on the land is reflected in the sky’,” Cr Metcalf said.
“The community and visitors to Bendigo really embraced the first White Night when it was staged here in 2018, attracting over 60,000 people which was fantastic for our local economy, particularly the accommodation and hospitality sectors.
“This is another wonderful event for the community and local businesses to look forward to and it further enhances our reputation as a major arts and cultural destination.
“Bendigo is a perfect fit to host the sparkle and spectacle of White Night with our impressive heritage buildings and public spaces. Our city will once again be transformed after dark with stunning projections, visual art, audio visuals and illuminations complemented with music, dance, street performers and interactive works from talented local and national creatives.
“We will be working closely with businesses, community organisations and artists to make sure this event is a success. Local artists, performers and organisations will be able to register their interest in participating in White Night Bendigo closer to the event.
“Bendigo’s 2022 calendar is bursting with so many wonderful events.
“Along with White Night, we have a great line up of events over the coming months starting with our exhibition blockbuster Elvis: Direct from Graceland and the hugely popular Lost Trades Fair next weekend.
“The 150th Bendigo Easter Fair anniversary will be another homegrown spectacular event over four days in April. Groovin the Moo, Bendigo Writers Festival, the Blues & Roots Festival and a full program of performances at our fantastic theatres and venues are back too so there’s something for everyone.”
