White’s PESRAC Report gaffe reveals O’Byrne focus

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Finance

Labor leader Rebecca White is trying her hardest to keep Shadow Leader David O’Byrne at bay.

Ms White has chosen to deliberately ignore the Government’s announcement today that we are implementing recommendations made by the Premier’s Economic and Social Recovery Advisory Council (PESRAC) in its first report.

Spooked by her leadership competitor’s media activity, Ms White has ploughed ahead with a press release filled with ludicrous claims about the PESRAC Report.

If she had taken the time to read our announcement today, Ms White would know that feedback from numerous small business operators, along with the recommendations made by PESRAC in its first report, has informed the development of our new $20 million COVID-19 Small Business Sustainability and Recovery Assistance Package.

Labor has had six and a half years in Opposition and has never delivered a costed alternative Budget and despite Mr O’Byrne’s regular bravado, they still have no long-term plan for Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government’s Plan to Rebuild a Stronger Tasmania is costed, activates $3.1 billion in construction value across the state and underpins 15,000 jobs. PESRAC is an initiative of the Government’s plan and with just over one week since the interim report was delivered we are already getting on with the job of implementing recommendations.

In contrast, Labor’s COVID sham plan is nothing more than a cut and paste of a bunch of other people’s ideas – and has absolutely no mention of job numbers in it.

The one thing everyone knows is the only jobs plan David O’Byrne has got is to take Rebecca White’s job.
