Whitehead Street in Corowa, has today received $2,730,000 in funding through the NSW Government’s $500 million Fixing Local Roads (FLR) program.
Member for Albury Justin Clancy MP said this funding will enable Federation and other councils awarded funding under this program to accelerate repairs and maintenance work to bring local roads up to scratch.
“The NSW Government is committed to fixing the roads you use every day through its $1.8 billion investment into local roads,” Mr Clancy said.
“Work funded will include sealing, resurfacing, road maintenance, drainage improvement and patching of local roads. Today’s announcement builds on the $330 million being provided to regional councils to fix potholes and the more than $500 million being invested into our Fixing Country Roads program.”
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Pat Bourke said it was great to see Whitehead Street, Corowa receive funding under the Fixing Local Roads program.
“This is a great program by the NSW Government,” Mayor Bourke said.
“Whitehead Street in this particular section to be renewed and upgraded, has been a neglected road for many years and Council identified the need to improve it for better access for all users, with the nearby Corowa Industrial Estate, as well as better access into key routes like Redlands Road, Corowa from the north including Federation Way and the Riverina Highway, for locals and travellers.”
Mayor Bourke said subject to further consultation and funding, this road could very much be a future alternative route to Corowa as flagged many years ago by then Corowa Shire.
“I look forward to seeing work commence on this project,” he said.
“Council from earlier successful work in applications has received funding for other roads under this program including Balldale Road Round 3, (underway), Cullivel Road Round 2, (nearing completion) and a general allocation in Round 1 that saw signage, vegetation, drainage and other works across many roads.”
This funding will go towards the rehabilitation of a 4.34km section of pavement, including widening where required and application of a new 7 metre wide bitumen seal.Council has also committed $682,500 as a contribution towards this priority project. As the project moves forward further information and project updates will be provided for local residents and wider stakeholders.
