From Olympic gold medalists to world champions and hall of famers, Logan punches well above its weight on the sporting field.
The City of Logan Sports Awards is the city’s sporting ‘night of nights’ that recognise the enormous contribution our athletes have made to our civic pride.
Past winners have included champion boxer Alex Leipai, former Bronco Corey Parker, Supercars superstar Chaz Mostert and steeplechaser Genevieve La Caze.
There have also been plenty of quiet achievers who have been recognised for their efforts on and off the field.
Last year’s Sportsperson of the Year winner, decathlete Ashley Moloney, said his award came out of the blue.
“I wasn’t expecting to win. I didn’t even have a speech prepared when my name was read out,” Ashley said.
“I’d encourage anyone to nominate because you never know what might happen.”
Moloney won gold at the 2018 World Junior Championships and is preparing for next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
Nominations are now open for the City of Logan Sports Awards, which will be held at the Logan Metro Sports & Events Centre on Saturday, November 2.
There are 12 categories this year including – sportsman and sportswoman of the year, elite athlete with a disability, young sportsman and women (13-18 years), master sportsperson (35+ years), sports official, sports coach, sports team, sports administrator, sports organisation and sports event.
