The South West Rocks community is currently being asked to provide feedback on a plan for the SWR Sporting fields that includes a proposal to put a fence around the oval. The use of the word ‘fence’ has given the wrong image to some locals.
Fencing is required to control access on ticketed game days, to enable the venue to meet the standards required for major events. This means there doesn’t need to be a fence in place most days of the year.
This is why the proposed fence has been designed such that it will be open for the vast majority of the time, only closing off the oval during events. The section that will involve permanent fencing is along the western edge, where the High Performance Centre is located and the eastern boundary adjacent to the houses. The plan also outlines temporary fencing to be used on the eastern side where the oval adjoins private properties.
The fencing along the northern edge, between the car park and the oval, will be ‘operable’ fencing. This essentially means that a series of gates will be installed along the boundary, that can be closed to create a full fence as required.
The plan also includes the option for a permanent or temporary fence on the southern edge between the oval and the golf course.
The proposed South West Rocks Sports field Master Plan was commissioned by Kempsey Shire Council in conjunction with the High Performance Centre Steering Committee and the SWR Sport and Recreation Association. Council has also spoken directly with neighbouring residents.
The development of this master plan has been fully funded, however delivery of the items outlined in the plan are NOT currently funded. The plan will help to secure future funding through grants.
The community are invited to provide feedback on proposed plans for the South West Rocks Sports Field Master Plan which also includes an extended car park, new footpaths, an entry area plaza for the Centre, ambulance location, storage facilities, drainage and grading, seating and shade tree planning.
Please provide feedback by Friday, October 4, 2024 by completing the survey or making a formal submission at
