WILGA PARK RE -OPENS TO THE PUBLIC WITH NEW UPGRADE
The City of Ryde has completed an extensive upgrade to Wilga Park, transforming the venue into a
dynamic outdoor space with first -class facilities and amenities.
Wilga Park is located in the heart of Macquarie Park and is a popular outdoor space for local
residents and employees based in the business hub.
Included in the Wilga Park upgrade is.
• Amphitheatre terracing with concrete seating walls
• A new amenities building
• Improved path lighting and new access paths, including an accessible path from Cottonwood
Crescent into the park
• A picnic area with barbecue
• Filtered water station
• A new landscaped boundary with native grass and groundcover, plus a native tree canopy
• Free Wi -Fi
A highlight of the upgrade is the installation of two eye -catching artworks named Mandala and Burst.
Mandala is an elevated, circular area featuring a dynamic floor mosaic of vibrant colours, while Burst
is intended to be an expression of movement and energy.
In addition, the new facilities will enable community events to be staged at Wilga Park.
City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Jerome Laxale, said Wilga Park was now a first -clas s outdoor facility that
provides the public with space to relax and connect with nature.
“The upgrade to Wilga Park deliver s on Council’s commitment to provide enhanced recreational
spaces that the whole community can utilise,” Clr Laxale said.
“Importantly, the key principles of ecologically sustainable development have been integrated into the
final design of t he Wilga Park upgrades, which will conserve the biological diversity and ecological
integrity of the Shrimptons Creek precinct.”
The Wilga Park upgrade is part of the Shrimptons Creek Activation project, which connects parkland
and open space along the Shrimptons Creek Corridor while also creating more recreation space for
public use.
The new public open space at Wilga Park complements the improvements to the nearby Elouera
Reserve, which included the installation of a new playground last year.
The Wi lga Park upgrade was funded by the City of Ryde with assistance from the NSW Department
of Planning, Industry and Environment’s Precinct Support Scheme.
