As the world gears up to commemorate International Women’s Day, Willoughby joins the global movement with a series of events under the theme “Inspire Inclusion.”
On Thursday 7 March, Willoughby invites all community members to partake in a symbolic walk starting at 9:45 am from Willoughby City Council offices located at 31 Victor Street. The route will traverse through Victoria Avenue Chatswood, culminating at the Dougherty Community Centre.
The walk symbolises solidarity and support for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
At the Dougherty Community Centre, attendees will be treated to a light morning tea followed by inspirational speeches and live performances celebrating unity in diversity. This event aims to honour the remarkable contributions of women throughout history and advocate for a future where gender equality is not just a goal but a reality.
Tanya Taylor, Mayor of Willoughby City Council, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “International Women’s Day gives us the opportunity to reflect on the achievements and contributions of women globally while emphasising the importance of fostering a diverse and inclusive world. We need to explore how we can channel our combined energy towards these shared goals at the local and national level.”
The International Women’s Day event in Willoughby has been organised in conjunction with community members that participated in Willoughby City Council’s ‘Inspire to Lead’ project. The project aims to enhance and develop the skills and knowledge of CALD leaders to build cross-cultural understanding, community resilience and social cohesion.
