Tasmanian Labor stands for well-paid, safe, secure jobs and we strongly welcome amendments to the Liberals’ UTAS legislation passing the lower house.
After nearly a year of maintaining an anti-development, anti-education position on UTAS, last night the Liberals landed the stunning backflip they started last week.
Labor has strongly opposed the Liberals’ original UTAS legislation since I’ve been Leader.
We’ve unapologetically fought for world-class educational facilities, run by a strong university.
We’ve fought for the jobs that come with new construction – including hundreds of apprenticeships for our young people.
We’ve fought for the construction of nearly 2,000 new houses in the middle of a housing crisis, and Tasmanians have had a win.
The Liberals’ politics surrounding this issue have been appalling, but I’m glad the Premier eventually came to his senses, saw the light and fell in behind Labor.
