Win For Roos At Anakie

Expanded and upgraded netball facilities are being constructed at Anakie Reserve, the home of the Anakie Football and Netball Club – the Roos.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken and Ella George MP have met with Anakie Football and Netball Club President Heath Menhennet and excited players to tour the site, where an extra court, sports lighting, players’ shelter and fencing is being built by the City of Greater Geelong.

The $510,000 project at the De Motts Road reserve is set to pave the way for more community members of all ages to participate, facilitate safer training and play, and help the club grow its membership base.

The federal government has contributed $312,867 from phase 3 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program, while the state government’s Country Football and Netball Fund has provided $197,133.

Deputy Mayor Aitken

The upgrade builds on Council’s previous investments in the reserve’s changerooms and social facilities.

Anakie is a very proud and unique community within the City of Greater Geelong that Council has delivered multimillion dollar investments for since 2017.

We are proud to continue our support for the township by constructing the upgraded facilities for our local Anakie netballers for the 2024 winter season.

This partnership between Council and the federal and state governments demonstrates our commitment to provide important infrastructure that encourages an active lifestyle and social connections.

Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Member for Corio, Hon. Richard Marles MP

Anakie is home to a great community and at its heart is the Roos.

I am so pleased the Albanese Government is working with the Allan Government to invest in important community infrastructure, like these new facilities for the Roos.

We know when we back community sport, we get better outcomes.

These upgrades will see the Roos grow and, importantly, remove barriers for women and girls getting involved in sport.

Ella George MP, State Member for Lara

The Anakie Roos are so important to the tight-knit Anakie community – and deserve great facilities like the new netball court, lighting and shelters.

The new netball facilities will help the Roos grow participation in netball – meaning more women and girls can play the sport they lovee.

The Allan Labor Government is getting behind local sporting clubs like the Anakie Roos and investing in sporting facilities that the whole community can be proud of.
