Weather update by Bureau of Meteorology
The main details are below:
- A series of vigorous cold fronts is crossing NSW and the ACT
- Damaging winds, potentially strong enough to bring down trees or powerlines, have been felt at areas including Thredbo Top (109km/hr), Murrurundi Gap (78km/hr), Broken Hill (74km/hr) and Griffith (72km/hr)
- Very windy conditions will continue through to the weekend
- A Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds remains for many parts of NSW and the ACT
- The coldest weather is expected over the weekend with many temperatures possibly 4-8 degrees below average
- The winds will make conditions feel colder
- Significant snowfall is expected across the Alps and snow is forecast for several days
- Snow is also forecast to low levels along the NSW ranges on the weekend including parts of the Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Northern Tablelands and higher parts of the ACT
- Blizzards are a risk on the Alps and driving could be hazardous
- There’s a risk of avalanches in the Alps from today into coming days due to snowfalls
