Wingecarribee’s first ever cycling pump track included in Casburn Park’s exciting upgrade

Wingecarribee Shire

A fresh, new space for the whole community is set for Casburn Park at Wingello, with something to offer everyone. After a thorough community consultation, and the finalisation of design plans, the $2.5 million project is now officially underway.

The revamped park project incorporates lots of fabulous features, including the shire’s first purpose built ‘pump track’ for cycling, a fire truck play station, picnic areas, a brand new amenities block, a thrilling flying fox, and up-graded climbing equipment.

Ned Tripkovic, Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Project Delivery Manager, said there’s also improved accessibility and parking, timber deck, village green and village plaza, shared paths, and picnic/BBQ facilities.

“This park is quite unique as it is more community focused with the inclusion of a village plaza and congregation spaces with picnic facilities,” he said.

“The cycling pump track will no doubt be a hit with the local community, and plenty of recreation facilities for young and old.”

The significant funding is from the State Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund (BLERF). Previously the land was an open green space with a minimalistic playground and basketball half court.

Lamond Contracting has been awarded the construction contract and started work for the site establishment on 15 January, 2023. The company is known for other recent successful park upgrades to the highest of standards, including Seymore Park and Bong Bong Common.

As work continues, Ned Tripkovic said for safety reasons, the existing park area is now fully fenced off and closed to the public.

“We kindly ask for your co-operation and understanding during this construction period, and apologise for any inconvenience caused,” he said.

“However, we would like to recommend that during construction the nearest public toilet facility is located on the other side of the railway track just up the road at Bill O’Reilly Oval,” he added.

The project is expected to be complete by June 2024.
