Winter Street Party warms up Watton Street

Winter Street Party in the Werribee City Centre is back, bigger than ever.

As the days get colder, the Winter Street Party will bring a warm glow to look forward to this winter, with the return of Wyndham City’s free event in the Werribee City Centre on Friday 23 June, 5pm – 9pm.

This much-loved street festival will bring wintry fun to Watton Street during the school holidays with a huge new program to enjoy including fire shows, a pop-up roller-rink, snow play, live music, roving performers, a makers market, glow zone, delicious winter dishes and much more.

Wyndham City Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre said the event would build on the success of last year’s event – which attracted a record-breaking 12,000 people.

“This year, the Winter Street Party will be even bigger and better; creating a carnival-like atmosphere across the entire Watton Street.”

“Each year, we’ve seen the event continue to grow and this year we’re excited to see it further expand into a full street celebration that brings local businesses, musicians, artists, sporting clubs and community groups together in the midst of winter,” Cr McIntyre said.

Wyndham City’s Creative City Portfolio Holder, Cr Marcel Mahfoud, encouraged residents to rug up and enjoy the magic of the Winter Street Party.

“This year there will be a new winter wonderland and light-themed activity zones, two live music stages, a neon DJ booth, silent disco, glow-in-the-dark face painting and loads of fun for the kids,” Cr Mahfoud said.

“Businesses will be open late and will be venturing/spilling out onto the street with a range of offerings. From delicious winter fare along with alfresco dining areas to special retail offers, pop-up activations and a new Winter Market featuring more than 30 stalls from local Wyndham makers.”
“We’re also thrilled to be working with local performers, dance groups, sporting clubs and community groups on a Live and Local precinct, which will feature a fantastic line-up of local talent and come-and-try activities for the kids.”

The free pop-up roller rink will get everyone moving and keeping warm. It will be run from 4pm, Friday 23 June to 9pm, Sunday 25 June and located at 4 Watton St, near Troup Park. Bookings are essential and will open Monday 5 June. To secure your spot visit wyndham.vic.gov.au/winter

To safely set up and run the event there will be some rolling road closures and traffic management in place along Watton Street on Friday 23 June.

This will include a full road closure from 12pm, 23 June, enabling residents to safely enjoy all of the activities, pop-up business activations and alfresco dining on offer.

“Make sure you come hungry! From steaming-hot samosas, marshmallow-toasting and hot chocolates to family-friendly, dine-in options, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore Werribee’s very own ‘Eat Street’,” Cr Mahfoud said.

The Winter Street Party will be held from 5pm – 9pm, Friday 23 June 2023.
