Minister for Sport and Recreation, Nic Street, has called out Rebecca White for once again refusing to say if Labor will rip up the contract for the stadium at Macquarie Point.
When challenged directly by Leon Compton on ABC Radio this morning, Ms White’s trademark indecisiveness and deflection was on full display, before claiming she needed more detail before making a decision.
“It’s very simple – if you cancel the stadium, you cancel the team and kill the dream,” Minister Street said.
“Ms White is notorious for refusing to make decisions, but she cannot sit on the fence on this – Tasmanians deserve to know where Labor stands.
“It’s simply not good enough to say you support the team, but not the stadium – you cannot have one without the other.
“Our position is clear – we support the stadium and the jobs and investment it will bring, along with finally securing our own AFL team, after decades of trying.
“Ms White must stop avoiding and deflecting and tell Tasmanians straight – if Labor are in Government, will they cancel the stadium, which in turn, will mean we once again miss out on our own Tasmanian team?”
