Wollongong business giving away 2000 free donuts to help raise funds for children’s charity KidzWish

Wollongong business owner, Jo Moore, today announced she would be giving away 2000 free to help raise funds and awareness for local charity KidzWish Foundation on Thursday 17 December at Crown Street Mall* Wollongong from 9.00am until all gone.

These amazing donuts have been created to be as inclusive as possible so that all can enjoy the treat, these delicious donuts are free of gluten, egg, dairy, nuts, wheat, yeast and sulphites and are vegan. Australian made and owned and with no artificial nasties, these donuts offer a new level of delicious decadence for many people who otherwise can’t enjoy such a treat due to allergies, intolerances or preferences and are enjoyed by everyone who loves a bit of scrumptiousness.

Jo makes the decadently delicious donuts fresh and then dusts them in infused sugars made from whole fruit, vegetable and spices. They have proven to be hugely popular for everyone regardless of if they have food intolerances, allergies or prefer a plant-based diet.
Ms Moore is giving away the donuts and asking people to make an on the spot donation for KidzWish in return “I’m hoping to raise between $2000 and $5000 for this awesome charity” she said.

KidzWish helps children who are sick, disadvantaged or have a disability. Unlike most charity organisations, which focus on a single program or specific area of concern, KidzWish ensures that children and their families are not forgotten by falling through the gaps. Funds raised go towards providing children with Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Music, Dance and Sports Experiences and Wish Programs and the KidzWish Children’s Christmas Party.
Fundraising and Events Manager of KidzWish, Renee Hawira, said “The support we get from the Illawarra community, and from further afield, is outstanding and Jo’s fundraising initiative is a great example of that. It’s a hugely busy time of year and it is just heart meltingly kind of Jo to offer to do this to help others, especially when she could be selling her delicious donuts to earn income for herself. I find it very humbling.
In 2021 we will focus on the continual growth of the organisation by building a connected community through pathways, therapies, supportive programs and inclusive events and the funds raised by Jo will help us achieve that growth”.
OMG! Decadent Donuts were first developed by former Brisbane chef and restaurateur David Moore “Being in the restaurant game made me realise just how many people have intolerances to a wide range of foods. We wanted to create a product that was as inclusive as possible, something that everyone could enjoy.

I am anaphylactic to some foods and my partner is gluten and dairy intolerant. We’d wanted to develop a product which could be enjoyed by everyone regardless of if they had any allergies or intolerances and to be respectful of religious, cultural and personal beliefs.

Working with an Australian manufacturer in a strictly controlled factory, we’ve created a donut that is super light and fluffy and covers off almost every allergy and which afflict so many people and can be especially dangerous for children.

We love seeing the faces of parents when they realise they can finally give their child a treat like a donut and the same goes for the many adults who have not been able to eat anything so decadently delicious for many years due to food allergies”.

The name ‘OMG’ came about as a direct result of people’s reaction when they tried the donuts for the first time “People couldn’t believe how great they tasted and would exclaim ‘Oh My Goodness’ with a mouthful of donut. It’s been the same reaction over and over and regardless of if the person eating it has any dietary requirements”.

Jo became an OMG! Decadent Donut licensee earlier this year, the group is growing rapidly throughout Australia with licensees now successfully operating in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia and with more licensees soon to commence, meaning there are plenty of places for people to get their donuts throughout Australia.

The donuts are delicious on their own but are made even more decadent by being dusted in a unique selection of bespoke sugars which have been infused with dehydrated and ground whole fruits, spices and vegetables, all grown in Australia and with nothing artificial. There are currently 12 fun and unique sugar combinations such as Beet-a-licious which is beetroot, coconut milk, cinnamon and ginger, Dusty Queen – featuring cinnamon and naval oranges, Spicy Ranga – ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, cloves and coconut milk and Coffee Coffee Yum Yum.

Jo started the business in Illawarra after hearing about it from a family member, “I was very impressed by OMGs professionalism and strict controls in manufacturing and also that the products were certified and accredited by organisations such as Coeliac Australia and Vegan Australia. There was nothing like it here in Illawarra and Kiama and I’m totally thrilled with how the local community has got behind me”.

Jo can regularly be found at Eat St and Friday Foragers in Crown St Mall, Bulli Foragers at Bulli Showground, Kiama Farmers Market at Coronation Park Kiama, Dapto Markets at Dapto Showground, Kiama Makers and Growers Market at Black Beach Kiama and in 2021 will commence at the Nan Tien Temple Well Being Markets. Jo hopes to eventually open a shop in the region.

Note: Exact location of the massive donut give-away and fund raiser is Crown Street Mall, Wollongong, under the old David Jones Walkway, near H+M.
