Wollongong CBD welcomes Spring with a splash of colour

As part of Wollongong City Council’s ongoing activation program in the Crown Street Mall, the finishing touches were placed on a colourful new spring installation this week.

The vibrant display will remain in place until late October and features little pockets of colourful spring-inspired decorations, plants and seating along Crown Street Mall.

“Spring has certainly sprung and you can see that right across the city in our parks and green spaces,’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said this was a great way to invite our community to Wollongong now that the weather is getting warmer.

“Now that Spring is here, Council is looking at ways to beautify our City and create inviting spaces for people to visit and spend time in. The extra pop of colour will make your next visit to the Mall a bright and cheerful one!

“Next time you’re in Wollongong, look out for the gallon drums filled with flowers, eat your lunch on one of the living grass parklets or take a selfie out the front of the stage on the Mall that has been decorated with flowers and native Illawarra butterflies.”

The artworks and decorations have been made with sustainability in mind and have been built to be used more than once.

During the next two months, Renew Wollongong will also host two Spring themed artists – Bulli based Twig & Bo Florist and South Coast fibre artist Lissa de Sailles – in the Creative Container on the Mall.

“As always, don’t forget to make sure that your future visits to Wollongong are COVID safe. Remember to practice good social distancing whenever you visit public spaces such as washing your hands, remaining 1.5metres apart and staying home if you feel unwell,” said Cr Bradbery.
