Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman at Everton this evening.
Emergency services were called to an address on Great Alpine Road about 7.10pm on 6 December after reports a woman had been fatally injured.
Crews tried to revive the woman but were unsuccessful.
Police have taken a man into custody and he is currently assisting investigators with their enquires.
At this stage detectives believe both parties were known to each other.
