A woman has died in hospital following a two-vehicle crash in the state’s Riverina region earlier this month.
Just after 3pm on Saturday 16 May 2020, emergency services were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway in Tumut, about 100km east of Wagga Wagga, following reports of a crash involving a Subaru Liberty sedan and a truck.
The Subaru driver, a 29-year-old woman, and two children – girls, aged 10 and four – were treated for serious head injuries, before they were each airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.
The two girls were transported to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where the 10-year-old girl died on Monday 18 May 2020.
The four-year-old girl remains in a serious but stable condition.
The woman was taken to Canberra Hospital and placed on life support. She has since died, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The truck driver, a 58-year-old man, was not injured and underwent mandatory testing at hospital.
Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
As their inquiries continue, investigators urge any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision in the area at the time to come forward.
