An unlicensed driver will face court today charged after allegedly speeding away from a random breath testing site and crashing into another vehicle near Kempsey.
Just before 8pm on Sunday (1 October 2023), officers from Mid North Coast Police District were conducting random breath testing in Lord Street, East Kempsey, when they signalled for a Mercedes sedan to pull over.
The vehicle allegedly accelerated towards police before speeding away from the site.
Following inquiries, the Mercedes was located abandoned at the intersection of Belgrave and Smith streets, after it crashed into a Ford Falcon sedan.
The driver of the Ford, a 42-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.
Following further inquiries, the driver of the Mercedes – a 45-year-old woman – was located inside a nearby home after she allegedly forced her way inside the property.
She was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Hospital for mandatory testing and for assessment.
On her release from hospital, the woman was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station, where she was charged with seven offences, including:
- never licensed person drive vehicle on road,
- not comply with direction given by police officer,
- drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous,
- proceed through red traffic light,
- not give particulars to another driver,
- enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, and
- breach of bail.
The Kempsey woman was refused bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today (Tuesday 3 October 2023).
Investigations are continuing.
