Work has begun on new change rooms and public toilets on the western side of the Sir Jack Brabham sporting fields.
The $791,000 project includes :
- 2 change rooms for up to twenty people each, which also include 2 showers and 2 toilets
- 4 female and 4 male public toilets, together with an accessible toilet and

- a storage area.
The project is being funded by :
- a $550,000 grant from Round 2 of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities fund.
- $241,000 from developer contributions to Orange City Council.
Orange City Council awarded the $664,000 construction contract to local firm Renascent Regional.
Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said he’s pleased to be working in partnership with the State Government to deliver a boost for one of Orange’s main sporting venues.
“On the western side of the grounds, the only public toilets were built a long time ago and in a location that’s a long way from where most of the sporting activity is now centred,” Cr Reg Kidd said.
“The new building will be alongside the softball diamonds and next to the fields where cricket and soccer is being played.”
Orange City Council’s Sport & Recreation Committee chair Cr Jason Hamling, is pleased at the steady improvement in the facilities offered to the sporting community at the Brabham sporting fields.
“At the peak of the winter sports season, hundreds of youngsters and adults can be found at Brabham, and the quality of what’s offered to make that sporting experience even better is steadily improving,” Cr Jason Hamling. “As well as the new amenities block, it’s good to see the new under-cover, mini tiered seating stands in place alongside each of the football fields.”
“The old toilet buildings at Brabham are looking very tired, and this new building will bring us up to scratch with facilities for athletes with disabilities.
“When we build a new amenities block like this, it’s standard practice that appropriate facilities for disabled athletes are part of the design. The design includes an adult change facility for people with a disability and an accessible toilet which will enable the fields and sport precinct to be used by all members of the community.”
The project will also include construction of a 2.5 metre wide concrete path from Forest Road between the softball diamonds providing wheelchair access to the amenities building.
Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by April.
