The Wollert community is celebrating the start of works on the .
The multi-million-dollar project has been made possible thanks to a Council, State Government and Lendlease partnership.
Council has provided $5 million to the project with the State Government contributing $1.5 million. Lendlease is leading the design and construction of the facility in collaboration with Council as part of their continued development of Aurora Estate.
Mayor Lawrie Cox said with so many important projects to deliver for the community partnerships like this have never been more important.
“As one of the more northern centres in our newest growth corridor this centre will play a pivotal role for people of all ages within the community,” Cr Cox said.
“It will be an exciting precinct with a primary school and secondary school neighbouring this centre.
“We want to cater to all abilities in the community so considered thought has gone into how the building will be constructed, and how safe, welcoming and inclusive it is.”
The centre will include a 100-person hall which can be used to deliver community and cultural events.
Two maternal child health consultation rooms and a dedicated maternal child health program room will offer many programs for families, along with a consultation room for allied health services.
Three kindergarten rooms run by Kids First Australia will assist 99 children to begin their early education at both three and four-year-old kinder, while a youth program will meet weekly during each term delivering programs, services and activities.
The centre is due to be completed in May 2020.
