Work Has Progressed For The Hanwood Stormwater Pump And Levee Installation

Exciting works are happening to help reduce the flooding impacts in the village of Hanwood and enhance drainage infrastructure in the area. Works on the Hanwood Stormwater Pump and Levee are progressing well with a focus now on the installation of the Mallee Street pump station which includes electrical and concrete works, the installation of 4 stormwater pumps, a covering steel structure and perimeter fencing.

The construction of the levee around the perimeter of Leonard Road and Mallee Street is scheduled for completion in late June to early July 2024.

Griffith City Council’s Director of Utilities, Graham Gordon, said that works are progressing with the installation of the 4 stormwater pumps being carried out this month.

“Discussions with Transport NSW regarding the construction of the levee on Kidman Way are underway and is the final phase of the Hanwood Stormwater Pump and Levee project with works hoping to be completed by the end of June to early July,” said Mr Gordon.

Final works will involve the reconstruction of the Kidman Way Road between Mallee Street and Leonard Road to raise the height of the road to the level of the levee. Road closures during these works will be required. As this project primarily involves works on the existing road network, factors such as existing underground services, bad weather and traffic will affect the timeframe of the completion of works.
