The safety of all Tasmanians at work is a key focus for the Rockliff Liberal Government.
Today, Work Health and Safety Ministers from across Australia met to discuss the use of engineered stone.
Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, said that she was focused on ensuring the safety of our building and construction sector at today’s meeting.
“I was pleased that WHS Ministers from across Australia today discussed the Decision Regulation Impact Statement: Prohibition on the use of Engineered Stone,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“The Decision Regulation Impact Statement, prepared by Safe Work Australia, makes clear the risks associated with the use of engineered stone, and proposes a number of recommendations now for the consideration of Ministers.
“Our Government values a nationally consistent approach to ensuring that Tasmanian workers are not placed at risk, simply by going to work.
“Every worker has a right to be safe at work, each and every day.
“We recognise the need for dialogue and consultation with the industry in relation to potential impacts.
“I look forward to continuing to engage with stakeholders, businesses and other jurisdictions in relation to this significant matter for our State and our Nation.”
