Work starts on next stage of Broome’s most sustainable housing estate

  • Construction commences on Stage 12 of Broome’s Waranyjarri Estate
  • Latest stage to add 40 new residential lots just 2 kilometres from Cable Beach
  • Innovative estate offers climate-responsive design, sustainability, technology-enabled community living with diverse, affordable housing options

In a boost to the long-term housing supply in Broome, 40 new residential lots will soon be available, including six lots reserved to deliver more social housing, under Stage 12 of Waranjarri Estate.

Works are expected to take around eight months to complete and comprise the construction of 40 new residential lots including lots for six social housing dwellings, plus the first phase of construction of Tanami Drive, which will link the estate to the iconic Cable Beach.

Broome-based Roadline Civil Contractors will carry out the construction, having previously built Stage 11 of the estate. Five lots remain for sale in Stage 11, with prices starting from $218,000.

The new stage, which is moving development of the estate west towards the coast, is also adjacent to a future shopping centre and within walking distance of Broome North Primary School and parkland.

Titles for Stage 12 are expected to be available late 2024. When complete, Waranyjarri Estate is expected to be home to around 1,600 residents.

As stated by Lands and Housing Minister John Carey:

“It’s fantastic to see the commencement of works on Stage 12 at Waranyjarri Estate, with 40 new lots to be available shortly, with six more dedicated social housing in Broome.

“As part of Broome North, this development is creating an accessible, environmentally-conscious community that will ultimately bring more housing diversity to the area.”

As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna:

“Located just five kilometres north of the Broome town centre, Waranyjarri Estate is part of the 700-hectare Broome North master planned community – which will ultimately deliver up to 4,800 new homes for around 13,000 new residents right here in Broome.

“These new lots are the building blocks for what will become new homes in Broome as our community continues to grow and thrive into the future.”
