- Works begin on landmark Karlkurla Nature Playground project in Kalgoorlie
- Final designs include zipline, climbing structures and community amenities
- Delivers on an election commitment for the Kalgoorlie community
Works have kicked off on an iconic new nature playground at Kalgoorlie’s Karlkurla Bushland Park, delivering on an important WA Labor Government election commitment for the local community.
The $1 million project supported by a $600,000 Cook Government commitment and a $400,000 contribution from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will provide a state-of-the-art facility for kids right across Kalgoorlie.
Delivered by the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Urban Landcare Group (KBULG), the project incorporates a zipline and large climbing structure with slide. This will be complimented with new park amenities, shade and BBQ area.
The nature playground will provide an additional recreational space for local families and children, set within a 200-hectare natural reserve.
The playground is tailored for primary school aged children, and includes a large, grassed space for picnics and a variety of play-based and sensory equipment.
As part of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community Cabinet visit, Premier Roger Cook joined Regional Development Minister Don Punch, Environment Minister Reece Whitby, Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent and project partners to tour the site.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
“My Government is getting on with delivering on our election commitments by providing the modern infrastructure that regional communities deserve.
“This project will give residents and visitors another reason to get outdoors and visit the stunning Karlkurla Bushland Park, keeping local kids active and giving families more recreation options in Kalgoorlie.”
As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:
“The playground at Karlkurla Bushland Park will provide a new space for local children to explore and discover in an ever-changing natural setting.
“It’s going to be a big playground space, conveniently positioned close to the entrance of the park, so parents and children can gather and play before they explore the rest of the park.
“I am proud to be part of the Cook Labor Government, which continues to invest in regional communities to make them more sustainable and liveable.”
As stated by Environment Minister Reece Whitby:
“The project will bring more families to the park to explore and enjoy this great local asset.
“I commend Kalgoorlie-Boulder Urban Landcare Group on their ongoing work to protect and regenerate the bushland park, including native propagation and education programs undertaken across the park, and at the KBULG Eco and Cultural Education Centre”.
As stated by Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to see the final designs unveiled.
“I’ve been working with Kim and the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Urban Landcare Group on this project for some time and I’m proud our Government’s investment has helped make this happen.
“Lots of regional communities have nature playgrounds, which have become important hubs for the community, and I’m delighted that Kalgoorlie-Boulder will soon have its own.”
